Herbicide Resistance, Tillage, and Community Management in the Pacific Northwest

چکیده

The use of glyphosate as a replacement for tillage has been credited with spurring the adoption conservation in United States. With herbicide-resistant weeds becoming significant agronomic problem, however, it is unclear whether gains are danger being reversed farmers turn to manage that herbicides can no longer kill. Using 2015 focus groups, 2016 national survey, and an ongoing Community Herbicide Resistance Management Initiative four communities Pacific Northwest we assess following questions: (1) How do U.S. view option controlling weeds, (2) Do attitudes towards experience increase farmers’ usage tillage, (3) Can community management provide avenue maintaining while also increasing effective weeds? We find many consider be emergency fail-safe managing there complex relationship between herbicide resistance awareness, concern, partly explained by dedication finally potential support resources necessary prevent large-scale related management.

Herbicide Resistance: Development and Management

Worldwide, herbicides remain the most efficient technology for large-scale weed control. Therefore, the widespread evolution of herbicide resistance in weed populations within intensive crop production systems is a major threat to the sustainability and profitability of cropping systems. The introduction of new herbicides and herbicide modes of action to replace those herbicides failing due to ...

Community clusters of tsunami vulnerability in the US Pacific Northwest.

Many coastal communities throughout the world are threatened by local (or near-field) tsunamis that could inundate low-lying areas in a matter of minutes after generation. Although the hazard and sustainability literature often frames vulnerability conceptually as a multidimensional issue involving exposure, sensitivity, and resilience to a hazard, assessments often focus on one element or do n...

Herbicide Resistance: Definition and Management Strategies

H erbicide resistance is the inherited ability of a plant to survive and reproduce following exposure to a dose of herbicide that would normally be lethal to the wild type. In a plant, resistance may occur naturally due to selection or it may be induced through such techniques as genetic engineering. Resistance may occur in plants as the result of random and infrequent mutations; there has been...
